Teamware Mobile provides mobile professionals active mobile e-mail, calendar, task, and contact synchronization between a mobile device and a choice of best-known groupware system including Teamware Office, Novell GroupWise, Lotus Notes, and Microsoft Exchange. Teamware Mobile product suite includes the Express Tool, which makes mobilization of intranet / Internet content easy. Fast and cost-efficient GPRS connection makes it possibility to manage costs better than before.

With Teamware Mobile your enterprise can have one system to take care of several functions: platform for services, mobile gateway, mail gateway, SyncML-based calendar gateway, tool to convert web pages for a mobile phone, and easy sign-on to different services.

Teamware Mobile can be used with Teamware Office 6.1 or later, Novell GroupWise 6.5.3 or later, Lotus Notes 6.x, and Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003. Teamware Mobile end user applications are available in English, Finnish, Swedish, German, and Dutch.

Teamware Mobile Functionality

Teamware Mobile opens new possibilities for all who have dreamed of fast and secure mobile access to their intranet solutions. Key features of the back-end groupware system and intranet information systems are made available to mobile professionals.

Active mobile e-mail with filtering

New e-mail messages are made available automatically on the user’s handset either with the whole message including the header and attachments, header and message body, or with header only. Instant alerts upon the receipt notify the user of received messages (check phone compatibility). Alerts are automatically disabled when the phone is set in silent mode.

Mail messages sent from the mobile phone are copied to a user-defined sent items folder in the user’s groupware mailbox making it easy for the user to keep track of the status of sent messages. SMTP authentication is needed for sending e-mail messages.

An easy to use advanced filtering system keeps the user in control of which e-mail messages will be delivered to the phone. Users can create and select filtering rules for different purposes such as business trip, time off or time in the office.

A Web-based desktop user interface is available for creating and modifying mail rules. The active rules can be changed using the mobile phone.

Automatic calendar, task and contact synchronization

Teamware Assistant is a mobile phone application providing synchronization of appointment, task and contact information. Availability of task and contact synchronization depends on back-end groupware functionality.

Calendar synchronization keeps the user up-to-date at all times by synchronizing data between the desktop and mobile calendars. Calendar synchronization is based on SyncML. An alert informs the user about a new appointment. In addition, a listing of new and modified calendar entries makes time management even easier.

Teamware Mobile Express™

Teamware Mobile also offers secure access to enterprise information systems and Web-based content with Teamware Mobile Express. The Express runtime environment is a standard feature the Mobile server. The Express Tool, a complete end-to-end mobile development tool, is licensed separately.

Administration and Terminal Management

Teamware Mobile includes advanced user and system management features. User information is common to all Teamware Mobile applications.

Mobile device settings are managed centrally. Terminal management makes it easy to install and update mobile phone clients and configure the phones for use with SMS messages. In case a user loses the mobile phone it is easy to disable the mobile access of the lost device or delete all confidential data with a poison pill.

Technical information

Teamware Mobile is a Java-based (J2EE) system running on Linux platform. It is based on common open standards (e.g. HTTP, IMAP, SMTP, SyncML, JDBC, LDAP). LDAP support provides authentication against an external authentication server.

To protect access over the unsafe public Internet, Teamware Mobile supports SSL/TLS-protected IMAP, SMTP, SyncML, and HTTP connections between mobile devices and Teamware Mobile servers.

The most typically used network connection is GPRS but other connection types including GSM data, HSCSD, 3G (UMTS or WLAN) are also available.

The supported mobile phones include Series 60, Series 80, Symbian UIQ, Series 60 3rd Edition, UIQ 2.1, and UIQ 3.0 phones. There may be limitations to availability of functionality in different phone models. Teamware Mobile can also be used with other phone models that support IMAP and SyncML. Terminal Management works with a GSM modem or with an operator connection (requires TextStream Gateway for Teamware Mobile, Symbian OS 9 devices not supported).
