Our Viking journey departed from the Royal Palace in Stockholm out into the beautiful and unique archipelago with thousands of skerries. We were welcomed by Viking hosts who dressed us in linen tunics and gave us a mug of mead, 'the drink of the Gods'.
The warm summer evening treated us to a thunder storm and lightning amidst which we enjoyed a scrumptious Viking feast including juicy ribs, smoked herring, and root vegetables all served on carved wooden plates with large linen napkins. Thus, no cutlery was available - quite a messy but nontheless fun experience!
The Vikings onboard sang to us and challenged us to trials of strength such as rövkrok, a special Viking game. We also challenged each other to less usual contests: Viking shot songs and dancing, 'Sound of Music' the Norse way, and Vikings attacking a neighboring village.
