What's New in Teamware Office 7.0

Like its predecessors Teamware Office 7.0 Ed 1 offers customers enhancements in four key areas:
  1. security,
  2. effective use of information,
  3. efficient administration, and
  4. integration capabilities.

Continuous customer feedback and the customer voting of enhancements conducted in 2004 were the most important sources for enhancements in this release. Teamware Office 7.0 is available by the end of June (Solaris and Windows versions) and in September (Linux version).

New features

Teamware Office 7.0 Ed 1 continues the tradition of high security by modernizing the Secure Mail functionality. Secure Mail now supports PKCS#11v2 API enabling use of Java-based smart cards. Two or more card readers can be attached to the PC and the card PIN2 code (used for non-repudiated signing) is supported. It is now also possible to use different certificates for signing and encrypting messages. This allows the user to sign the message with a personal certificate and encrypt it with an organizational certificate.

Effective use of information is supported by several new features targeted to end users. Mail filters can be run automatically when the mail client is started helping the user in organizing his email. Mail messages can now be restored from the wastebasket or personal folders to inbox and outbox both in the Windows client and in WebService.

WebService has been revised and now has a portal like top page with new appearance and enhanced usability. Auto-reply messages are now supported. There is a new Presence feature where users can indicate their availability and view the presence information of other users. Calendar and Presence information of selected users can be easily viewed by using a favorites list. The list consists of those colleagues whose calendar and presence information is most frequently needed. When the user is viewing almost any page in WebService he can add the link of that page to the personal bookmark list by clicking a command on the page. In this way it is easy to organize shortcuts to most-often used targets like favorite forum discussions and project document folders.

Administration is made more efficient by introducing several new tools for administrators. These include, for example, tools to set users’ calendar permissions, list and change users’ auto-forward, auto-reply and redirect settings, and tools to force users to change password at the very first login or the next time they login. Client software installation is made easier by a new MSI package.

Teamware Office 7.0 Ed 1 introduces a set of JSR 168 –based portlets for portal integration. The standard portlets include listings of email and forum messages and calendar appointments. Portlets will be available as a project delivered add-on. The Connector for Mail Archive has been merged into the standard product.

Teamware Office integration with Teamware Mobile is enhanced with synchronization between Personal Addressbook and mobile device contacts (available in Mobile 2.2) and synchronization of mail status information (available in Mobile version 2.3).
